I want to introduce you to Jade Figgins the way her HS school counselor introduced us to Jade…”Jade is a rare jewel.” And after you get to know her, you’ll understand why.
Homelessness
Abandonment
Physical Abuse
Family Drug Abuse
Foster Care
Substantial Poverty
Are these the terms that one might use when describing the life of a jewel? Well, in Jade’s situation it’s absolutely part of her shine. For as Jade stated in her application “It was evident that the Lord has already ordained a prosperous future for Jade Figgins.” And that He has.
For through these struggles, this “jewel” has maintained a 3.8 GPA at Oakland High School, partnered in too many organizations to name, has been a 4 year band member, musical theatre — including a starring role in Wizard of Oz, just to name a few.
Most recently, Jade was elected to attend Girls State. But did she stop there? Of course not. Jade has worked on Habitat for Humanity projects, Domestic Violence Victims events and with elderly citizens in nursing homes. She is cofounder of a fraternity/sorority for singers to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jade will be a 1st generation college student for her family. Jade stated in her application, “I want to prove my success to every person that thought I would fail or fall short.” I have no doubt she will.
