Jose walks with the assistance of a cane, but that belies the strength and perseverance of this young man. Four years ago, Jose survived a car wreck that killed his mother and three other family members. He suffered from a broken neck and spinal injury. Doctors thought he would never walk again, but today he makes his way the aid of a cane. He credits his recovery to the love and support of his family and friends. His father told him: “We will always love you no matter what and are so proud of you.” Despite his many, many hours of rehabilitative therapy—physical, occupational, and speech– Jose maintains a 3.5 GPA taking advanced Honors courses.
